POSITION TITLE: Speech Therapist

 

REPORTS TO:   Director of Special Education &/or Principal 

 

BASIC FUNCTION:  Must meet minimum standards as determined by Kentucky Certification Standards

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:  The terms of employments are designated by the contract.

 

  • Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance
  • Physical ability to perform duties as required
  • Works with assigned agencies/schools to provide speech therapy for identified children.
  • Ensure that screening and evaluation procedures are provided for these students.
  • Ensure that due process procedures are followed.
  • Maintain necessary records in a confidential manner.
  • Work in condition with the Director of Special Education to meet program needs for identified students. 
  • Assist the Director in locating and identifying eligible disabled students. 
  • Assist by screening, referred children to determine eligibility for further evaluations.
  • Schedules evaluations for those children determined through screen/referral process to be eligible. Works with other professionals (i.e. school psychologists) to ensure a complete evaluation.
  • Keeps all records required by law, and due process requirements. This includes but is not limited to permission forms, testing (screening & other), IEP’s and documentation of parental contact. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Building or District Level Administration

KNOWLEDGE OF:

 

  • Principals and techniques of Speech Therapy.
  • Laws and regulations concerning medical records and therapeutic services.
  • Special Education laws and due process.
  • Record keeping techniques.
  • Health & safety regulations.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

 

 

ABILITY TO:

 

  • Provide Speech services to eligible individuals. 
  • Determine and evaluate treatment.
  • Communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing 

 

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate equipment needs. 
  • Prepare written evaluations and review medical and therapy reports.
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of related technological advances and other matters. 
  • Meet schedules and time lines.
  • Observe health and safety regulations
  • Perform while standing, sitting and/or walking
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Principal and/or Director of Special Education. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Requires bending, squatting , crawling, climbing, reaching
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights

EVALUATION: Annual development of Professional Growth Plan. Annual evaluation of job performance by supervisor. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders 

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Kentucky Department of Education Certificate for Teachers of Exceptional Children—Speech and communications Disorders, Grades K-12
